graphics and tables all of which are presented to the attendees using
a Dell Inspiron laptop computer with remote control, an InFocus®
LP280 computer projector and a 5' screen. The projector may also be
connected directly to a video camera so the audience can get a bigger
and better visual image of the turning techniques being demonstrated.
Don mobilizes his entire presentation including:
800 lb Omega Stubby Lathe (requires 220vac
and a 36" door
access)
a rolling cart loaded with tools and accessories
an 8" grinder with the necessary jigs
lap-top computer, computer projector, 5'
screen, video camera, tripod,
dry erasable board and paper flip charts
Lexan® safety shield
All this is packed into a 14' enclosed trailer
and pulled to your site. Once on-site, it takes about 30 minutes to
get set-up and started.
Don's demonstrations are probably like none you've ever seen. The
combination of visual features, Don's knowledge of turning and his
presentation skills produce an excellent and informative show.
Here's what some of the attendees had to say:
"I didn't know it could be done this well." Jim Courtney,
North Florida Woodturners- AAW
"Don Geiger gives a first class presentation reflecting his
skill, knowledge, experience, steadfast organization, and his willingness
to share these with others. You will never hear him ask where something
is that he was supposed to bring." Danny Adrian Guthrie,
North Florida Woodturners- AAW
"The Bell Woodturners not only enjoy, but find Don's demos
very informative." Van Johnson, V-P Bell Woodturners- AAW
August 17, 2002 Demonstration for Hands-On Woodturners
Club

Don conducted a 5-hour demonstration/presentation on "Using the
Ellsworth Signature Bowl Gouge" for a group of 55 paid attendees.
Some of the subjects covered were: gouge design, sharpening, selecting
a blank from a log, mounting the blank on the lathe, turning a natural
edge bowl from start to finish, design, sanding and finishing. The
bowl Don turned was included in a raffle and was won by Ellie
Dodge. Below is a comment Don received from the Hands-On Woodturners
Club after the demo:
"Just a note to say thank you for the super job you did at
our Saturday event. As usual you were superbly prepared and the material
very professionally presented. From the beginning when the publicity
and promotion was being formed to the final delivery of your presentation
it was a touch of class. It is a real pleasure to do business with
you. I heard nothing but positive comments from the audience, and
you will probably be getting requests from other clubs represented
to do the same presentation for them.
I believe when we first talked you told me that you had more than
one presentation you could do. If I am correct I would definitely
like to talk about the possibility of a return performance for next
year.
Again on behalf of the club, a big thanks."
